ERPA Test Review Web Seminar - Part II, January 2013
Date: 1/9/2013 Start Time: 2:00 PM (ET) Duration: 360 Min.

Continuing Education

After the three sessions, each participant is provided a Letter of Participation/Verification of Attendance form. Only registered, paid participants receive confirmation of attendance.

IMPORTANT CHANGE REGARDING WEB SEMINAR LETTERS OF PARTICIPATION:
For purposes of Continuing Education (CE, CLE, CPE), you MUST retain your "Seminar Registration Confirmation" email to be able to access/print the Letter of Participation after the program. You need to use the 5-digit RegID number and your last name as shown in your email confirmation to access your Letter of Participation from the the same location where you accessed the program materials: www.relius.net/events/MyReliusEducation.aspx.

Complete details are provided in your registration confirmation email. Each Letter of Participation is available on the Relius.net web site 14-21 business days following the end date of the program. SunGard's Relius sends a post-seminar email to notify program attendees when each CE Letter becomes available. The email notification does NOT contain your RegID.

Attention ERPAs and ERPA exam candidates!
*PTIN REQUIREMENTS FOR ERPAs
Do all Enrolled Retirement Plan Agents (ERPAs) have to have a preparer tax identification number (PTIN)? Some practitioners are questioning this and the answer is generally no. As long as an ERPA does not prepare tax returns for compensation, a PTIN is NOT needed. For more information, see Notice 2011-47 and IRS article, "Enrolled Retirement Plan Agent Program (ERPA) - Do ERPAs need a PTIN?"

Collecting of ERPA PTIN by CE Providers
Recently the IRS mandated that IRS-approved Continuing Education Providers collect PTINs of ERPA designees attending their programs and report that information to the IRS. Collecting the PTIN applies ONLY if the ERPA is required to have a PTIN. For an ERPA without a PTIN, when the PTIN is requested, the ERPA simply replies that he/she is not required to have a PTIN. There is no need to substitute the ERPA enrollment number for the PTIN. CE providers continue to give credit for the program and issue a letter of participation without collecting a PTIN. The IRS only requires reporting of CE credit for ERPAs when they have a PTIN.

Reporting of CE Credits by ERPAs
The process for ERPAs who are not PTIN holders to report CE credit has not changed. The ERPA continues to self-certify that he/she has met the ERPA CE requirements.

So, there are no major changes for ERPAs this year. If an ERPA is not required to have a PTIN, CE reporting by providers is not required. ERPAs continue to follow the same renewal process as before, by self-certifying that the CE requirements for the enrollment period were met.
